What Can you Do?
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Matthew 5: 14 &15
what we need:
We believe the parties involved are unjustly closing this school, consolidating educational institutions, and removing parents school choice in the Diocese of Brooklyn, one of the largest in the USA.
Catholic families in Brooklyn have experienced extensive consolidation, leading to a lack of trust in the continuity of our Catholic schools. There is a significant absence of investment in quality Catholic education and a noticeable absence of options for female single-sex education. At a time when womanhood is constantly under scrutiny, our young Catholic women deserve the opportunity to attend single-sex schools within the largest city in the USA without having to leave their borough.
- We demand the truth regarding why the Ad Hoc Commission rejected the proposals.
- We implore the Diocese of Brooklyn to invest MORE in quality Catholic education. This includes state-of-the-art facilities, exceptionally trained teaching staff, solid school leadership and administration, and small class sizes. Achieving this will require investment in salaries and benefits for Catholic school teachers by the Diocese, who are typically underpaid. It will also necessitate fully renovated facilities, outdoor spaces, technology upgrades, electrical improvements, in their typically underwhelming facilities. The Diocese should focus on curating a curriculum that allows for experiential learning and progressive teaching methods while maintaining traditional values. Catholic education in Brooklyn should be the BEST available in the US, considering the access we have to resources.
- We ask the Diocese to offer the option of elementary single-sex female education in Brooklyn. It is unacceptable that there is no access.

Dear [Recipient’s Name],
I am writing to you as a concerned member of the Brooklyn community regarding the recent decision to close the Brooklyn Visitation Monastery and subsequently the school associated with it. It has come to our attention that there are several unanswered questions surrounding this closure, and we believe it is imperative to address them for the sake of transparency and accountability.
First and foremost, we believe that the parties involved are unjustly closing this school, consolidating educational institutions, and removing parents’ school choice in the Diocese of Brooklyn, one of the largest in the USA. Catholic families in Brooklyn have already experienced extensive consolidation, which has led to a lack of trust in the continuity of our Catholic schools. Furthermore, there is a significant absence of investment in quality Catholic education and a noticeable lack of options for female single-sex education.
At a time when womanhood is constantly under scrutiny, our young Catholic women deserve the opportunity to attend single-sex schools within the largest city in the USA without having to leave their borough. Therefore, we demand the truth regarding why the Ad Hoc Commission rejected the proposals that could have potentially saved the Brooklyn Visitation Monastery and its associated school.
Additionally, we implore the Diocese of Brooklyn to invest in quality Catholic education and to consider offering the option of elementary single-sex female education in Brooklyn. This would not only provide much-needed educational opportunities for our young women but also contribute to the preservation of our Catholic identity and values within the community.
We urge you to take these concerns seriously and to provide us with the answers and actions necessary to address them. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Pray for the future of Catholic education in brooklyn
Almighty God,
You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people. As a Teacher, He has given us the prime example of the importance of education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.
Thank you for the many people who have dedicated their lives in service to our Brooklyn Catholic Schools. Thank you for the teachers and administrators – religious and lay – who sustain our schools. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness to the importance of Catholic education. Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education.
Bless all our Brooklyn Catholic Schools and the many people who advance their mission. My they continue to teach and guide the next generation of Catholics.
May our schools be a home for those who seek to grow in openness, faith, love, intellect and commitment to justice.
In your name, we pray.
Amen.
